How To Think Like An Entrepreneur

I received an email from one of my Daily Marketing Coach members who is struggling to make the cross over from full time employee to now becoming her own boss.

Are you struggling with that too?

If you’re self employed and putting together an online business, I think you’re going to enjoy this video.

First off, you might be feeling a little bit scared and understandably so.

So this video will help you if you’re feeling challenged in your role as an evolving entrepreneur.

I break this down into four primary suggestions.

See if these recommendations aren’t helpful for you, regardless of whether you’re a new entrepreneur or fairly along in the process. Then share it with one other person you think would benefit. Or add your own comments below.

  1. This is an issue I see all the time. People underestimate the learning curve and the mindset shift needed to transition from employee to entrepreneur.

  2. Thank you, Ann. So glad I’m rubbing shoulders and hanging out with the best entrepreneurs in the industry!

This has definitely been a big issue for me coming from a background of public service, academia, and non-profit administration….

    Still learning!

  3. This is awesome Ann! You really have helped me a lot and I definitely was inspired to write my own blog post about this. Thanks for your insight!

  4. Great advice there Ann. Personally, when I was transitioning from employee to entrepreneur I found it incredibly useful to have two different modes. Being both “The Boss” and “The Employee” at 2 different times. Let me explain…

If you think about it you don’t need to be in “boss mode” or “entrepreneur mode” 100% of the time, not even close. Once the goals are made clear for any given day, you then get to work in “employee mode” and start doing what needs to be done. So, you only need to be in “boss mode” while you are working out what tasks need to be completed in the goal setting stage. This can be a daily activity.

I found it incredibly useful to put on my “boss hat” at the end of each day and write out a list of tasks that needed to be completed the next day (or you can do it in the morning at the start of the day). This would take maybe 10-15 minutes. Then once this is done you can put your “employee hat” back on and wake up the next morning knowing exactly what needs to be done. Simply start with number 1, finish it, tick it off the list and move on to the next one. Of course the “boss hat” will be needed a few times as you go through your day, but the majority of the time it’s simply a case of doing what you did as an employee and just doing the tasks that have been set by the boss. Only this time YOU are the boss.
