The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy – Video Book Review

What would you consider the simple no nonsense eternal truth of what it takes to be successful?

Darren Hardy’s The Compound Effect will drive this home for you. That’s just one reason why I recommend The Compound Effect because it underscores the hard core disciplinarian in me. It will in you too.

No, it’s not a sexy overnight sensational teaching, but more like salt of the earth truth that once upon a time was the bedrock of our American culture — Ben Franklin kind of wisdom.

Quick note on that. I’m noticing a trend that the wisdom teachings are little-by-little creeping back into our culture. Maybe because the “must have it now!” messages wear thin after awhile, or simply don’t yield the promised outcomes.

The Compound Effect will force you to shift your focus toward tried and true wisdom that’s always worked, but is no longer being imparted from one generation on to the next.

Here Are Three Take-Aways From The Compound Effect

#1) Success is defined in the minute-by-minute decisions of life.

For example, should I keep working on my project (I’ve got a good rhythm going after all) or should I take a break and spend a few minutes playing with my child?

That may seem like a small decision, but consider the massive compounding effect it can have over time. You DO want your child to remember playing ball with you right?! Of course you do!

Darren recommends you choose just one area of your life you want to change, and carry a notebook around with you to document exactly everything related to that change.

It could be how you tend to talk behind people’s backs. Document it. Your brain will now be set on auto awareness and start to make increasingly focused changes in that area. Master that change. Then move on to the next one.

I did this in the sports world and ended up receiving the Most Improved Player of the Year award. It works.

#2) Getting and maintaining momentum.

You need to know there’s a biological reason for momentum, and you can program it into your body. It’s about establishing rhythms into your business. When you get those rhythms nailed the sweat it once took you will barely even be there.

You will have hit your stride and no one will be able to stop you. What was once hard becomes a cakewalk. Rinse and repeat. Darren Hardy’s book will show you exactly how to do this.

#3) Influence.

If you want to be a person of influence you’ve got to become super mindful and vigilant over what is influencing you. After all, if you want to lead others you have to lead yourself first.

This is especially true in the entrepreneurial space. People inwardly crave for someone to lead them. They’re lost. They’re confused. Who can show them the way? This is why what you allow into your heart, mind and soul needs the care and attention of a master gardener.

While growing up we had our parents help us with this. Now we bear that responsibility. The result of a compounding effect is that our followers will benefit from this care and attention, and before you know it we can change the world in a really big way.

We all know the change is in the doing. And that’s why I like the clear action steps offered at the end of each chapter.
