To Offline MLM Leaders Coming Online: Never Give Your Voice Away (and other key insights)

Here at 80/2o Marketing, we’re working closely with more and more offline MLM leaders. The point of today’s post is to tell you some of our early insights.

I’m not saying that the offline MLM leaders are leaving behind what has made them successful. Not at all. I notice that they simply want to cover their bases, protect their assets, diversify, have a share of the collective voice. They also want to support their organization, and the new people they continue to bring in. After all, understanding the basics of online marketing is a form of literacy.

Why Would An Offline MLM Leader Want To Come Online?

For starters, it finally makes sense to them. As I said, it’s a form of literacy. It’s also firmly rooted in our culture to the degree that ignoring it is now irresponsible for one’s business and overall leadership development. These leaders want to know how the online space works.

Here are more reasons for why an offline MLM leader would want to come online:

Authenticity

Don’t let this buzzword word stand in the way of understanding it for what it is. People are going to talk online, and they will talk online even if you’re not there to tell your own story. The absence can be embarrassing. Things can get one sided, and/or facts can get mistaken.

By setting up a home base online, these leaders know that they can quickly tell their own authentic story. They can learn to control their own corner of the web, and use that as their “home meeting” and take their rightly deserved equal share of voice. It’s also great for positioning.

Attention

This is where offline MLM leaders sometimes struggle because it takes awhile to understand what works and what doesn’t. It requires putting stuff out there on a consistent basis, and having a routine that works with the rest of their day to day business responsibilities.

This goes for newbies and leaders alike… when you get into the routine of publishing your content to the web you quickly discover in real time what works, what doesn’t, and what to try next.

Here Are Two Mistakes I See New-To-The-Internet-MLM-Leaders Making

Impatience.

Like all of us who want to see results fast, they rush for results instead of honoring the process. The practice is the reward. Let me put it this way too… if you start and stop, and then let a year go by, you WILL regret it. This online thing is just picking up velocity. It’s still early. Have patience. Learn what works and it’s alright to go slow as long as you go.

Too much delegation.

The biggest mistake that anyone, not just an MLM Leader, but especially a New-To-The-Internet-MLM-Leader is to try to do too much, over complicate. All it causes is over-whelm, confusion and time suck.

Even worse, they delegate the most important thing a person can own: your voice. Never give your voice away.

That is a point of emphasis I want to briefly address…

Don’t Give Your Voice Away

An example of giving your voice away is when you outsource your content creation. Many New-To-The-Internet-MLM-Leaders don’t want to create content, they don’t want to write their blog posts, don’t want to do video, and don’t want to work their Facebook page. So they hire someone else to do it.

Big mistake. That is the worst thing you can do. The ‘must-do’ work for all content producers on the web is to find one’s editorial voice then get into a predictable routine of sharing it. There’s no substitution for this work. Especially that of an MLM Leader because they’re voice has already established in home and hotel meetings and coffee shops across the Universe.

How Will You Know It’s Working?

Here’s what we tell the offline MLM Leaders we work with how to tell if all the work they’re putting into developing an online presence is working:

For starters, you’ve built an audience, or brought your audience with you.

Secondly, the audience is growing thanks to the audience itself. In other words, it’s not you who is making the self-serving statements about your value, leadership and authority, it’s the audience.

Third, you’re starting to glean valuable insights from this audience, and drafting visions about how to serve them, and further grow your business at the same time.
