What Network Marketers Mean When They Say, “Money is My Why”

Money is NOT a Why. Money comes as the result of your ability to meet new people, develop relationships and inspire others to take action with you.

Here is a quick example. . .

A few days ago someone posted the following to Ann’s Facebook wall:

I want people under me!!! I am with Shaklee and I want people under me and I want to make $$$!!! Give me some more ideas!!! Thanks!!!

I have found both from experience and from seeing others that the WANT for money won’t deliver you all the way to your goals. A WANT for money usually doesn’t get results. A WANT to help others does. It’s going to be hard to build a down line (let alone a real business) when you’re operating from “I want people under me, and I want to make money” mindset.

Ann and the 80/20 Marketing team have been reading Start With Why by Simon Sinek. We highly recommend it.

In fact, we’ll be hosting a webinar with Simon, and you’re invited to attend this Tuesday, June 21 at 9 p.m. EST (click this link and register).

These are the profound themes taught inside Simon Sinek’s Start With Why:

First and foremost, learning your why is a process of discovery. It’s not something you invent.

That process of Why discovery has more to do with considering your past – at first. Specifically mining for periods of time in your past when you were in balance. Think back to a time when things were effortless and running at their best.

Simon reminded us that Why appears when passion is running high because it means we have energy available. And that is a guarantee of success. Not money. Money is a result of that focused energy. Money doesn’t sustain focused energy, passion does.

Simon Sinek Says

Every single organization, even our careers, functions on 3 levels. What we do, How we do it, Why we do it. Everyone knows what they do, some know how they do it, but very few know why.

So, Ask yourself why does your organization exist?
Why did you get out of bed this morning?
And why should anyone care?

Join Ann Sieg and Simon Sinek on Tuesday, June 21 at 9 p.m. EST.

They will be discussing how to Start With Why. And when a network marketer says that money is their why, they’re really talking about something altogether different. More details will be forthcoming this Thursday here at The Renegade Blog.

Here is the core of what Simon teaches. You can easily apply this to your networking marketing business:

All organizations and careers function on 3 levels.

  • What you do,
  • How you do it,
  • Why you do it

The problem is, most don’t know that Why exists. Or they’re not in flow with it to the degree that they can personify it.

The Golden Circle (Start With Why)

The Golden Circle. Click the WHY to learn more.

Simon refers to Why, How and What using The Golden Circle.

As you can see from the diagram, the object is to start with from the inside (start with why), and work outward.

  1. The Why is your driving motivation for action. It’s your purpose, cause or belief.
  2. The Hows are the specific actions that are taken to realize your Why. They’re guiding principles.
  3. The Whats are the tangible ways in which you bring your Why to life. It’s the tangible proof and results.

When network marketers say, “Money is my why” they’re really talking about their What. Why is most important. It determines How. How creates What. Start with Why.

When network marketers are clear on their Why and How, the What becomes effortless and that’s when the money flows.

We are going to explore this topic with greater depth on our webinar with Ann Sieg and Simon Sinek. Register early. Register now. More details forthcoming this Thursday.

  1. Eric,
Remember when I mentioned to you that I would love to see Simon Sinek on the Leadership Circle webinar?
You immediately responded that he was already scheduled to come in June.
Man, I was excited and still am!

This is some really good stuff, and I am so glad that Ann, and your team has requested his presence. It is going to bring such huge value to the table of our Leader Circle’s group.

    Thank you so much!

    Your friend in business,
    Martin Dale

    • Sure do Martin, and I’m excited too. I had the opportunity to speak with him on the phone yesterday -briefly- with Ann as we prepared for next Tuesday’s webinar. He’s solid man. He’s cut from the same cloth as me and you and Ann in the sense that he really enjoys giving value. He’s passionate about his Why. It will definitely show on Tuesday. I have the hunch that this is going to touch your sweet spot. Talk to you on the call. Thanks for the comment.

      • I haven’t yet read his book, but I really liked the videos I saw of him.
That was before I knew you had invited him to be a guest speaker on the show, obviously.

Anyway, I believe it will definitely hit a sweet spot, and not just for you and I, but
everyone that can make it on the call!

        Martin

  2. That’s awesome. I had never really heard of him until I saw this post but that’s great that you guys got him in for a webinar. His book sounds great and it’s definitely something our industry needs. Thanks you guys. I’ll be getting a hold of his book very soon. Always looking for good reads. – Alex

  3. I have read Simon Sinek’s book, and I highly recommend it. I agree wholeheartedly, it’s not the money it’s the why! Sometimes the why can take a long time to find, but it is worth the search.
