Leadership Quality #4: Leaders Inspire Others Into Action Through Selfless Action

I believe leadership first develops through the home, but more than that, it begins with yourself. You’ll hear a specific example about my father while growing up as a young child. Of course, the example of my father made a huge impact in my life. He is an inventor and it is his nature to create.

We’re all born to be creators, and it’s those who take action upon that who inspire us to be creative and resourceful.

This demonstrates to others that the world is filled with possibilities and potentiality.

True leaders also act spontaneously on possibilities without worry about all the nitty-gritty details that often hold many people back. Sadly, for many the great work that they could have accomplished frequently never gets out there because of the “if then” type scenarios that play out in their mind.

They hold back instead of letting loose.

A lot of that comes down to a lack of trust in the whole people process. Their view is more that people will harm them or steal their ideas instead of just focusing on the people who need to be served.

It’s a bit counter intuitive. True leaders live in the space of their vision of how the world “ought to work.” When they do this they naturally attract to them people of like mind and vision.

Often it’s these type of leaders who have overcome great odds without you ever realizing it.

They don’t dwell or focus on the past. They’re forward thinking and that’s what makes them so attractive. The vast majority of people want to be lifted out of their current circumstances.

It’s leaders who help them do just that by virtue of acting spontaneously on their inspiration.

This past weekend, I experienced something called “The Slam Dunk Get ‘er Done Challenge” from our Renegade Action Workshop that we hosted in Minnesota.

I knew a lot of people struggle with doing their first video. But by making a bit of a game and contest out of it, I had many of my attendees breakthrough a significant challenge.

So watch the video, it’s all in there.

Go ahead and comment after you’ve watched the video.  Share if and when you’ve seen this type of selfless leadership in place. Secondly, what could you do differently to reach this level of leadership?

  1. Love this post and the video Ann. Listening to you explain the various positions within the leadership rank helped me understand the post. I now see why we grow into leadership…as long as we don’t give up and quit. I now see that I need to take each piece of information, chew it up then swallow it…stop holding it in my mouth…action trumps inaction. I now get why you say to do it, tweak it and do it again…it’s the process of learning and growing. Thank you…got it and acting NOW!

First I will say am honoured and priviledged to get the type of selfless leadership. It confirms that really God has blessed me. Honestly, since I was born; all what the authorities and leaders have been telling me about living life to the fullest or having a fulfilled, purposeful life, are all bullshit.

I have never since this type of leadership in my life. Am not a kid. Am thirty years old and have never seen this type of selfless leadership in my life. I started experiencing it a little when I came across you, which is own the net. But I understand only one thing.

If you want to be the best, you have to learn from the best.

What I could do differently to reach this level of leadership is first to duplicate you. Secondly, add my spin on the leadership programme, activities and teachings.

  3. Thanks so much for your kind words, Solomon. That means a lot to me. It sounds like you’re on a powerful path of leadership that is heartfelt and genuine.

  4. Ann,
Walking a selfless life style is something that like yourself I learned by example from my parents. The strength of this lesson was to live selflessly but with the confidence that I deserve the best but do not have to always have the best.
I sense from your talk that your father was the same. A life lived with knowing who they are and at the same time showing others that they have value.
You demonstrate this so well in your passion and consistent giving here at the DMC.
For many years I was mentored by a very selfless boss and it caused me to learn more, do more and in turn give more when I was called to be the mentor.
My plan to bring my leadership to an expanded state through selfless living is to use the blog that I am building through Marsha Godwin. At Fireborn Inspiration it is all about sharing what I have learned in my business and ministry years to come along others on their journey of pursuing purpose and destiny.
Thank you for bringing back many memories of my own Mother and Father’s selfless giving!
    Warmly, Jane

  5. Loved that because i could step out and look at myself thru you. My father was also an inventor. He was a poor farmer who knew he could design whatever he needed for the job. He too was a man who never sat still. He was always passionate about learning and discovering and making things that worked. He would stay up late hours and it’s such a lesson in self discipline, motivation, inspiration, learning, teaching and leadership.

Our MLM did some type of “deal” with my current MLM so we could all belong to the new company. At the time we were told we were merging. We didn’t have time to grieve, so many quit. But for those of us with vision, stayed. No upline from the new company made it a real challenge to learn “HOW” to do this new business. But even after that people just kind of pouted, kicked the dirt, walked in circles not knowing what direction to take.

Seeing this behavior and hearing the constant complaints spurred me into action. Because I felt it too, but I was so busy planning and learning etc. that I didn’t sign up for that class (as Jim Rohn would say).
I asked everyone I knew how they were doing. Same answer…not good. So I started a “TEAM CALL” to provide some direction, training and continuity. The team consisted of all the side line people that were struggling. I was busy training my downline, but I included them on the calls. What a difference it has made all the way around.

Leadership is so important. I needed to be one, they needed to have one. It was a win, win situation.
You are so inspiring and so dedicated to helping everyone. I thank you over and over (even though you can’t hear me)

Look forward to the next leadership training.
    Sandra
