How To Prepare Yourself For Adversity In Your Business

You need to have the skin of a rhinoceros.

That was the advice given to me several years ago when I was first beginning to have big success in this industry.

Since, I’ve been forced to condition myself for all manner of calamities. That’s the point here… What I would like for you to get out of this post (and video) is how to plan for the worst, hope for the best. Don’t forget to read the take-aways below the video.

How To Prepare Yourself For Adversity In Your Business

Here are 3 big take-aways from the above video:

Be prepared to solve YOUR problems

The very nature of business is that you’re constantly solving problems. You go into business thinking you’re going in to provide a solutions to people’s problems, but you find out most of business is solving your own problems. You must become highly skilled at this and to approach it with a sense of optimism.

Prepare “worst case” scenario

My webmaster whom I’ve had a wonderful relationship for the last 8 years has taught me to go “worst case” scenario. Some may think this is a negative way to think. It’s not. It’s that you go into the situation with both eyes wide open. Hope for the best but plan for the worst.

Set up coping mechanisms in advance.

Rudi Giuliani’s father trained him to mentally (and physiologically) prepare for the worst so that when the worst comes he would be prepared. Life is about being prepped in advance. Preparedness is key. It’s a survival trait.

  1. I agree, Ann- and I don’t see “worst case scenario” as negative thinking at all. It helps to be prepared for things “not to go as planned”, because then you are more able to flex your plans and go with the flow. Some things simply can’t be controlled, so we find a way to rise above unforeseen circumstances.
When you think about it, what seem to be the most popular movies and stories? Those where someone faces unbelievable odds, but emerges victorious! We can choose to look at problems not as obstacles, but as stepping stones.
    Thanks for a timely post!

  2. Many didn’t know we were going to be in a long recession but it happened. Some were preparing for the worse and some said the recession will pass soon. For those who knew from the beginning prepare for the worse. This is not negative thinking and whether you like it or not things will sometimes go wrong.
Being business is lots of responsibilities and Ann, me and other entrepreneurs know this first hand about running a business and the obstacles we face. Great post. Thanks
