Are you good at first impressions?
Your “About Me” video serves as your online “first impression!”
In this post, I’ll teach you the 5 essential elements to include in your “About Me” video so that you will stand out from the crowd and make that great first impression!
How To Get The Most Out Of This Tutorial
First, watch the video tutorial below. I teach you everything you need to know about how to create an “About Me” video for your About Me page.
Or if you learn better from reading along, I’ve written the contents of the video tutorial that you can download and print a PDF of this training here:
1. OPENING STATEMENT
This positions you as an authority and expert.
Ex. “Hi, my name is … and I am the creator and author of … (your site) and this is my life…”
When someone asks you “Tell me about yourself… or “Tell me your story,” what do you say?
Ex. “If you are anything like me…
It’s just a little teaser that introduces you but it intrigues them to keep watching.
Here are some tips and questions to ask yourself:
- Introduce your family (people love to relate on a deeper level!). This shows some trust too.
- Introduce your pets!
- Where did you go to school and what did you study?
- Where are you from?
- What are some jobs you’ve had?
- What are some of your hobbies?
- Are you a sports fan?
The point of this part of the video is to develop a connection with your viewer. You want them thinking “Yeah, I’ve been there,” or “I can totally relate” and especially “This person is real!”
Give them the “REASON WHY” you are making this video. This can be because you have advice to give or a passion to share, etc.
Ex. “The reason why I am making this video for you is because…
Ex. “That’s why I’m here. I want to help others _______ because ________ (your previous problem).
5. CALL TO ACTION
Ex. “I’d love to get to know you! Stop by and say hi on my blog: ______. See you on the net!”
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER:
“Hi, my name is… and I am the creator and author of…(your site) and this is my life…”’
“If you are anything like me… (You love your family, camping, sports, pets, video games…etc.)
“The reason why I am making this video for you is because…. (Your problem)
“That’s why I’m here. I want to help others …(your solution) because …(your previous problem).
“I’d love to get to know you! Stop by and say hi on my blog: …. See you on the net!”
Keep it under 5 min
Smile! Relax and let your personality shine through.
Non-perfection (yes you read that right!) Just let it flow and don’t worry so much!
People want to know who you are and how you can help them.
Tell them a little bit about who you are, where you are from, what you are doing and where you are going. Most importantly, let them know exactly how you can help them, and tell them exactly how to access your help.
You can think of this “About Me” video like a chapter book…with only 3 or so chapters.
Note: Do your best to mix up the shots. “Show” your viewer instead of telling them. That rule alone will make your video stand out from the rest!
