“Discipline yourself to save money on even the most modest salary.”
Argh! Most people crash and burn on this – including myself.
Honestly, I feel our culture has lost a lot of the mainstay virtues that made our country great. As a result, we have to be all the more conscientious to resist the urges to overspend. We have been habituated into some pretty negative money management practices.

Hi Ann & Renegade Team!
I give myself pretty HIGH marks on this one! I still track every penny, by person and by category, combining credit card and checking account expenses by month and tallying up by quarter and year. That way I am sure where our family funds are going and just who needs to be called out on something. (It is usually my husband!) I am a spreadsheet guru – any my spreadsheets are both colorful and complicated. Keeping a close eye on our credit card activity also allows me to monitor for fraudulent activities. I carry this practice to my business expenses as well.
Thanks for the great tip. I will give my self and extra cookie for for my efforts!
Doing more than just wishing you success… Helping you along the way! Dawn
Dawn, you deserve more than an extra cookie for your efforts. Your tracking is off the charts! I say a big fat brownie with gooey chocolate would be well deserved on your part. You’re doing awesome!
Thanks for the common sense statement for those that have their heads in the sand box.. Thanks to Obama for putting us in a bigger hole his first 90 days. He alone made it harder for my young adults..
Hi Ann,
I’d rate myself fairly low on this one. I’m happy but I’m not penny oriented. There are times that I wish I were, but most of the time I’m driving forward. Love your series! Keep up the great work. Oh Hale Yes!
Hi Ann,
Yes, great thoughts here. It’s pretty tough out there and many people are probably keeping their eyes shut. I try, but actually my wife does a better job on this one.
Good food for thought in your videos. I am going to reblog a few of them.
Hu
You have brought the situation to light in a very necessary message to all of us(U.S.)
Thanks for your courage. I have struggled with this since first graduating from a University. Prior to that I knew I had no money, so did not spend.
this one i do pretty good with… but… i live a very simple life and don’t get out so much…and…don’t have a lot of dependecy on me, therefore i can live frugel and it doesn’t affect others.
Yes, this is one that I struggle with daily. My wife is better at this than I, but as a result, I’m learning how to discipline myself for the better. So, my ranking for this subject would be low to be honest with myself.
