  1. Thank you for your words of wisdom Ann. It’s always so encouraging to get feedback and support when one needs to make that shift to working at something you enjoy.

  2. This is foundational advice. I have spent far too much of my life finding out what I don’t enjoy and being miserable doing it. I have no doubt that I could have made piles of money practicing medicine, but at the price of my soul. I have long felt that I could best serve others by sharing with them what I have so painfully learned on my journey. The “what ” and the “why” were in place, but the “how” eluded me–until I discovered Daily Marketing Coach. Before I began learning attraction marketing I had despaired of ever being able to use my knowledge and experience to not only help others live transformationally but also make a living doing it.The training provided by DMC has given me a step by step plan to achieve that meaningful work for which I was created. Thanks to everyone on the staff of 80/20 Marketing, but special thanks to Coach Curt, Eric Walker and you, Ann Sieg. Your enjoyment of what you do is contagious and it is definitely worthy of your time and considerable talents!

    • Thanks for sharing, Bobbie. Agreed, it can be mighty painful to just slog out work that you’re not energized about. It’s almost like losing a part of your soul. So glad the Daily Marketing Coach is helping you get the “how” of your why and what. Excited for you!

  3. Hi Ann. I think I’ve always been good at communication – or at least have enjoyed it tremendously. It’s why I make a good yoga teacher and why I love to do this marketing stuff. I kind of feel called to do it because I’m so drawn to this work. The challenges in the learning and doing are so worth it because once we see some success from our efforts, we’re even more affirmed that we’re doing the right thing. I really want my precious time to be spent doing the right thing – for me, for my family and for those with whom I connect.

    • Totally agreed, Lisa! It’s like no mountain is high enough when your aligned with your true values. In fact, it’s almost a welcomed site because you know you have so much to give and it will be worth every bit the climb. Thanks for sharing.

  4. One of the benefits of age is that you learn to focus on the things you are good at and these are generally things you enjoy as well. You stop listening to what others think you should be doing!

I believe that deep down, each and every one of use desires to serve in some way, to make a difference, to live a life of significance. We hear about carbon footprints. What about “heart prints”?I know that when I spend the day doing the things that I love for people who need my help, the return on my time is much greater than the money I earn. It feeds my soul.

    • I love it, Sue! Heart prints is where it’s at. How do you put a price on being able to feed your soul while doing what you love? It’s the highest level currency. No amount of money can replace it. Plus, it could easily be said you make way more money when you’re fully aligned with your work.

  5. Thanks Ann for success tip #2.

Indeed…finding your true passion in my opinion has to be the driving force behind your business. It’s the only way one can stay the course as an entrepreneur.

As aptly noted by the legendary Steve Jobs:

“I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance”.

One can’t have perseverance without loving what you do!

  6. I started reading a book recently it’s called “So good they can’t ignore you” it fit very well with what you are saying here Ann!

  7. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “Give thanks in all circumstances” —

goes straight to having a proper attitude, doesn’t it?

Having a grateful heart is key to enjoying our work which is key to achieving success. All three are woven together intricately.

Thank you for speaking to this topic, Ann. It’s layers and layers deep.

    Jory

  8. This task of marrying our talents in a way that we truly can give back is something most people search endlessly for. Like you say, instant gratification is the buzz word for the new generation. It’s too easy to move away from something in search of the next new thing. I feel perseverance these days in many things is a shrinking commodity. Could it be the reason why the majority feel unfulfilled, unhappy, and lacking direction? Thanks for your insight Ann.

    • I’m afraid you’re observation is absolutely dead on, Myron. If people can’t have it yesterday it’s just not fast enough. That said, those of us who understand perseverance will win the race by default.

  9. Knowing what your strengths are and understanding how they sync with the calling I am following is also a part of being grounded in working at what I love to do. The Strengthsfinder by Tom Rath, a book you recommended Ann, is key for me in that process.

I agree with Myron about the cultural shift to wanting more but working less. It undermines the ownership of success.

  10. What a different type of day you have before you when you do what you love, love what you do and are fulfilled throughout the process. Recognizing our individual strengths is an exercise in inner reflection and certainly time well spent!
